IN MOURNING -- SUMMERHILL COLLEGE community is struggling to come to terms with the deaths of two young students, Daniel Clarke and Aaron Moran who died of serious illness in the run-up to Christmas. Aaron had been ill for many months and missed out on his Leaving Certificate 2012.
Daniel's final illness was extremely rapid and news of his death left classmates stunned as they prepared to start their Christmas examinations.
The students were remembered in prayer service held in the college and will be further remembered over the coming weeks. May they Rest in Peace.
THE NEW college gymnasium is open now. The state-of-the art facility is a source of great pride to college management, the PE department and to all in the college.
THREE SUMMERHILL students travelled to the RDS for the annual Young Scientist Exhibition. Kevin Martin, Donal Lowry and Donal Glennon were accompanied on the trip by Mr Niall Mc Dermott. Mr Damian Keenan mentored the trio.
THE PRESENCE of the College Band has added greatly to the enjoyment of college masses and functions in recent years. Now, thanks to Ms Maria Taylor, Ms. Tara Kelly, Mr Paul Keogh and others, a college choir has been formed and is ready to add another dimension to college life and ceremonies.
CONGRATULATIONS TO Ms. Charlotte Costello on the birth of her first child, a baby girl.
