The Barrack Street houses after volunteers from Sligo Tidy Towns brightened them up with fresh paint.

THEY'VE been quietly working away in the evenings, their handiwork there for all to see in the mornings.

It is hard to miss the great work of the Tidy Towns volunteers.

Derelict and disused buildings and houses have been freshened up with a lick of paint.

The makeovers are having an instant impact.

Eyesore buildings and houses have been brought back to life again.

At the start of the year, Sligo Tidy Towns identified 40 sites for tackling with the paint brushes.

To the group's immense credit, 27 of them have been completed already. They are aiming to get to the remainder done before the end of the month.

Painting has been one of the core projects this year.

The work has been spearheaded by three volunteers in particular: Denis Fahey, Des Faul and Declan McPartland.

Judging for the National Tidy Towns competition begins on June 1st and the group are hoping their efforts will see an increase in marks for Sligo. The adjudicators can visit Sligo at any time during the months of June and July.
