COOLANEY IS the tidiest place in County Sligo.
And on Friday last, it got its just reward at this year's SuperValu Tidy Towns Awards ceremony in Harvey's Point Hotel in Donegal.
Riverstown was "highly commended" while Ballintogher was "commended."
Culfadda got the Endeavour Award for achieving the greatest improvement in the county in 2012.
The winners were presented with their awards by Mr. Dinny McGinley, T.D., Minister of State at the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and Richard Lennon, Regional Manager, SuperValu, sponsors of the competition.
Also joining the Minister was Sligo-based Martina Kerr Bromley, Head of Operations, Fáilte Ireland North West.
Minister McGinley praised the Tidy Towns volunteers in each area.
He said: "Their unselfish efforts and the generosity they display really does make a difference.
"The results of their hard work is evident across the region in towns and villages."
The Minister also thanked Tidy Towns sponsor SuperValu.
"This is SuperValu's 21st year of involvement in the competition at local and national level.
"They have helped this competition to flourish and grow," he said.
A record 855 communities entering this year's competition, an increase from 821 entries last year.
The Tidy Towns competition has been running since 1958.
It is organised by the Department of the Environment, Community and Local Government.
The competition has been sponsored by SuperValu since 1992.
