Cash in on chance to win college bursary

Published 20/11/2012 | 10:25

THE COST of going to college is on the rise . . . and Sligo Credit Union is trying to help.

Credit Union members or their children attending third level college in 2012/2013 are now urged to complete a nomination form in the Credit Union's AGM booklet and return it to the office in Stephen Street before December 31st this year.

The 2013 winners, which are selected by an open draw, will be presented in January.

Meanwhile, 10 local students have benefited from third-level Credit Union bursaries this year.

Since 2006, the Credit Union has distributed Education Bursaries of €57,000.

The Credit Union estimates the cost for one year of third level education as up to €10,000 per child per year.

And these costs are not going down.

The Credit Union advises that even if children are attending only National School, a regular savings programme for their education is worthwhile.

The winners of the 2012 Awards were as follows: Deirdre Kelly, Neil Frazer, Dermot Anderson, Megan Lang, Ben Healy, Finola Mulvery, Edel Heraghty, Ciara Finn, Grainne Kent and Emily Boland.
