A Sligo-Canadian school link will be celebrated this Friday.
Canadian ambassador to Ireland Loyola Hearn, will be in Sligo to mark the occasion.
The project was initiated by Sligo Education Centre.
It involves fifth class pupils from St. Brendan's National School, Cartron, Sligo linking with St. Andrew's School, Middle Island, Miramichi.
They have worked on a project, 'Hands Across the Water' which examines Famine links between Sligo and New Brunswick.
Pupils in both schools have interacted with each other and learned about the large scale emigration which took place between Sligo and New Brunswick during the famine.
They have also learned how this emigration influenced their respective communities, together with their heritage and culture.
This link between the schools follows on from the launch by Mullaghmore and Cliffoney Historical Society in 2013 of an exhibition.
Entitled 'Sligo's Famine Diaspora: Emigrants from Palmerston's Sligo Estate, 1847' it focused on famine in north Sligo.
Also highlighted was the large scale emigration which took place between Sligo and New Brunswick in those years.
There are plans to expand this project to other Sligo and Canadian schools in future years.
