Tourlestrane's Ann Surlis pictured with her family on the occasion of her retirement from St Attracta's Nursing Home in the Gateway Hotel Swinford, recently. Ann was a long-serving member of staff, having 18 years service under her belt on her departure.

SAM MAGUIRE CUP -- The students and teachers had the opportunity on the 10th January to see Sam Maguire up close when the cup visited Saint John's National School.

Students wore the green and gold of All Ireland Champions Donegal's colours into school for the day. The cup also visited one of the homes of GAA in Sligo, Margaret Toolan's Shop where it was viewed by locals.


Many thanks to all who supported the cake sale held in December in the Parish Hall. We raised over €600. all monies raised are used to provide extra facilities for students and the school.

We will be further fund raising shortly when we have a bag packing event in SuperValu, Ballisodare. More information will be given nearer the time and volunteers will be needed to help with this fund raiser. Once again thanks to all who support the school.

Anyone interested in the Parents Association are very welcome to come along to our meetings which are held the first Tuesday of every month. Texts are send by the school to remind everyone.


Congratulations to Alfie Parkes who was made captain of Ballymote Golf Club for 2013. Alfie Parkes is well known in the Ballisodare area for his work in the Department of Social Welfare. As new captain, he is now inviting new members to join the club and anyone interested in more getting information can contact 0872779974 or their website
