Summer season heralds return of stylish sandals and flats

Published 22/04/2014 | 05:40

THIS week we visit Strollers shoe shop on Tobergal Lane in Sligo. As the summer season is (almost) here, boots are giving way to sandals in terms of footwear. The store caters for both men and women.

For ladies, brands such as Crazy 88, Kate Appleby, Ruby Shoo, Fly London and Amy Huberman are extremely popular. Rugby star Tommy Bowe's shoe collection for men is also flying out the door.

Saleperson Mary explained that customers are looking for matching shoe and bag sets for communions, weddings and confirmations at the moment.

"Amy Huberman's Bourbon collection is massively popular. We have been doing it for about two years. The shoes are all leather, mainly heels or wedges. The price ranges from €80 to €120."

She added that the sandal season is here. "The flat ones are doing very well, dressy and casual in a few different colours. They are around €30 or €40. The wedges are perfect for holidays, they can be teamed with maxi dresses or skinny jeans."

The store also stocks FitFlop and Fly London, which is a comfortable, leather brand.

Strollers is the only Sligo shop to stock Irregular Choice, a unique, vintage looking shoe.

"We also do Skechers brand which is as popular as always. There is a new range of memory foam runners which are very colourful, comfortable and good for walking. They are priced around €70."

Strollers, along with sister shop Cordners, is the only place in Sligo to buy Tommy Bowe's footwear collection. "This is by far the bestseller for men. It is extremely stylish and costs in the region of €80. Popular too is the Vans brand."

Strollers also sells Desigual bags. The shop, close to the Garavogue River, opened in 1996. Phone 071 9143267.
