Staff shed the pounds
Staff at Sligo Regional Hospital are feeling the benefits of an eight-week Operation Transformation programme.
Twenty six employees lost almost 13 stone in total after embracing a healthy lifestyle.
It was led by the hospital's smoking cessation/health promotion and dietetics department.
Every week, participants took part in Zumba dance classes, circuit training and weigh-ins.
Motivational speakers held talks in the hospital.
Canteen staff also played their part, creating a healthy options menu for the eight weeks.
Prizes for 'The Biggest Loser' were sponsored by local businesses including Life, Hair & Beauty, Carraig Donn, Clarion Hotel gym, Strollers and Bistro Bianconi. First prize went to staff nurse Mairead Grimes.
Hospital General Manager Grainne McCann said: "The overall sense of self awareness, well being and teamwork has been enhanced as a result of implementing such a supportive, inclusive programme.
"We are grateful to everyone who participated along with those from the community who gave of their own personal time to encourage and support our team throughout the eight week programme. We look forward to repeating the programme next year."
