Sligo's national 'Wow' girl is to hit our television screens.

Little Cara Tighe, from Riverstown, and her mother Majella have been invited to appear on TV3 Ireland AM on Tuesday next, May 13th.

Their appearance on the show heralds National 'Wow' Day on Wednesday, May 14th.

Majella said: "We're delighted.

"It's great for Cara and it is also a tribute to the work being done by Imelda Ryan Jones and others involved with Green Schools, etc."

The aim of 'Wow' Day. which stands for "Walk on Wednesday", is to encourage children to walk to school

And Cara is already an inspiration.

She was born with cerebral palsy which affects her mobility.

But despite her difficulties in walking, she has just taken part in An Taisce's National Walk to School week.

The first class pupil from Ardkeeran NS will now represent Ireland as the first ever national WOW (Walk on Wednesdays) girl.

Cara has to get physiotherapy sessions in Limerick at a cost of €300 per week to help with her walking.

Now, An Taisce has decided to support Cara's fundraising campaign, 'Cara's Dream to Walk.'

Yesterday, Bank holiday Monday, a fundraising tractor drive took place in Riverstown for Cara.
