SLIGO is fast becoming a national centre of excellence for kickboxing.
The success of a recent kickboxing camp at the Knocknarea Arena, in Sligo IT, underlined the point. More than 250 of the top kickboxers from Ireland attended the KBI (Kickboxing Ireland) event.
They prepared with national coaches in full contact, light contact, points fighting and musical forms and weapons.
The camp came ahead of the World and European WAKO Championships.
Coach Michael McDermott of Sligo Mugendo said: "The great attendance is a compliment to the high standard of local kickboxers and coaches and the wonderful facilities at the IT."
Ireland will host the WAKO World Senior and Junior Championships in 2015 and 2016 in the City West Hotel, Dublin.
Michael said: "Results at international level and the success of the camp shows just how highly Sligo rates in kickboxing terms."
