NEW ROSS SENIORS
We were blessed with another fine day on Thursday last when 17 teams went off in cold, sunny weather. Conditions were ideal, with the whole course dry as the proverbial bone even after the torrential downpours of Wednesday morning. This shows the benefit of years of sanding, making New Ross one of the driest courses in the country.
With winter rules now in operation, scoring from now on is expected to be in the 90-plus category or else teams will not figure in the prizes. That was the way it turned out last week, with two three-person teams making maximum use of their six-point bonus to finished deadlocked on 94 points each.
In the end a better back nine (43/41) gave the whiskey to the trio of Harry Rheinhart (12), Noel Kehoe (16) and John F. Roche (18). Bringing in the same total (94) and claiming the runner-up spot were Nigel Morrissey (14), Pat Whelan (18) and Willie Whitty (19).
Third place went to Kevin Treacy (12), John Roche (16), Dick Cahill (16) and Liam Glasheen (19) with a total of 92 points. Nearest the pin prizes were won by Denis Kirwan (ninth hole) and Paddy Hayles on the eleventh.
Manning the board, the draw and the entry fees for November are Willie Byrne, Jim ' Ross' Ryan, John Fitzpatrick and Jamesie Murphy. All please note the draw for teams is at 10.40 a.m. sharp each week.
Last weekend's competition was a turkey fourball held over Saturday and Sunday.
