Top cats come through Cup ties

THERE WERE emphatic victories aplenty in the Carlton Millrace Wexford Cup as three Premier Division sides and two Division 1 clubs sealed their places in the next round.

They all asserted their superiority as they ended the dreams of their lesser opponents to march into the next stage.

Division 1's Bridge Rovers endured the toughest test as they came up against Division 2's Ajax Athletic and they needed a Derek Walsh strike to earn them a 1-0 away victory.

Their divisional rivals, Moyne Rangers, were up against Orrill United and they cruised to a 4-0 success.

Mark Kirwan struck two of those goals, with Ricky Dwyer and Daithí O'mahoney chipping in with the other efforts.

Shamrock Rovers, New Ross Celtic and Campile United all also sailed to one-sided wins.

Ferns United were Rovers' victims as the Premier Division holders spanked them 5-0.

New Ross Celtic overcame Rosslare Strand 4-1 to ensure their name was in the hat for the third round.

And finally, Campile United fired four past Enniscorthy on their way to a 4-1 triumph.
