A CRACKING Paul Murphy goal helped North End United to a dramatic 1-0 victory over Huntstown/Hartstown FC in this thrilling F.A.I. Junior Cup sixth round tie at Belvedere on Sunday last.
It was easily North End's best performance of the season and it came just at the right time as they came up against a very talented Dublin side, who had to absorb lengthy periods of pressure, but also showed their attacking qualities as they put the Wexford side to the sword in the closing 20 minutes.
North End wanted to start well and this they managed to achieve as they took the lead as early as the 20th minute, and what a cracking goal it was. Kieran Kelly worked the ball splendidly out of defence down the left flank, and it was from the ensuing cross that Paul Murphy drilled home a superb shot.
Given the pace and quality of the game, one did not envisage at that stage that this would be the only goal, but while some half chances were created by both sides, the excellence of the respective back fours was the telling factor.
North End are through to the next round draw and on the evidence of this display one has a feeling they can make a huge impact on this cup.
