Seasiders set up crucial last clash

REALT NA MARA left themselves with a fighting chance of securing a quarter-final spot from Group B of the Intermediate 'A' football championship with this easy win over struggling Oylegate-Glenbrien in Farmleigh on Saturday last.

The outcome was never in doubt once the seasiders posted the first seven points without reply in the opening 18 minutes, with Leighton Gleeson and Kevin Jordan prominent.

And although the boys in blue responded when Daithí O'Mahoney goaled from the penalty spot in the 22nd minute, a similar finish from Gleeson just before the break left the Gorey District side ahead by 1-8 to 1-2.

Substitute Anthony O'Donohoe added Réalt na Mara's second goal midway through the third quarter before Jordan picked out Gleeson who stretched the gap to 3-11 to 1-3 in the 41st minute.

Jim White pulled a goal back for Oylegate-Glenbrien who are now facing a relegation battle in their first season at this level, but Réalt na Mara finished on a high as Colm Kinsella and Leighton Gleeson combined to pick out Kevin Jordan for a well-worked fourth major in the 57th minute. They now must beat St. Mary's (Maudlintown) in the last round to be in the mix for a qualifying position.
