Ramsgrange students scrum down to greet Heineken Cup
THERE WAS great excitement in Ramsgrange Community School on Tuesday as the Heineken Cup was brought to the school as part of the trophy tour.
With students from the previous winning province of Leinster, and prospective winners Munster, there was great banter among the students.
The students were treated to a question and answer session from YDO Nick Murphy who is currently training the boy's rugby team in Ramsgrange Community School.
RCS, although not a traditional rugby school, has a huge rugby following. Amanda Butler introduced rugby to the girls of RCS last year and with Nick trained a squad of 18 girls weekly.
This year after a huge interest from the boys, Ms. Butler asked Nick was it possible to coach the boys as well as the girls.
At the moment the school has a squad of 20/25 boys ranging from first to sixth year, and 12/16 girls from second to sixth year training every Thursday after school.
As of yet the girls have not had a match as some of the team are exam students and are concentrating on their exams.
Some of the girls are also on the successful soccer team in RCS that have reached the All-Ireland Final. The boys had their first match against Good Council College before Christmas, and with Nick organising matches against CBS New Ross and New Ross Vocational, it looks like it could be a busy season for RCS in rugby terms.
