AJAX ATHLETIC are striving to return to familiar terrain with promotion back to the Premier Division. They are four points adrift of surprise packets Kilmore United but have three games in hand, which leaves them ideally placed at this stage of the season.

Kilmore United have taken advantage of their fine form of last season when they won promotion to set the pace in Division 1 with some fine displays during this opening quarter of the season, leaving them on top with 30 points from 16 games played.

Shamrock Rovers are two points adrift after 14 games, with Ferns United third on 26 points from 12 games, while St. Leonards are sitting in fourth spot, also on 26 points from 15 games. Once-proud Ajax Athletic are maintaining their challenge on 26 points with three games in hand on the leaders.

All five sides will be aiming at crucial points over the coming weeks when a more precise pattern is likely to emerge, as the top sides are engaged in games that could decide the destination of their season.
