A HUGE crowd turned out for the first parade in over 30 years at Fethard on Sunday.

Colourful floats and entertaining characters made it a day to remember for everyone in attendance.

Organised by Lorraine O'Leary and the village committee the parade attracted holidaymakers who wouldn't have normally come to the seaside village until later in the year, making it a busy weekend for local businesses.

There were 16 floats and numerous local groups including the GAA club, the RNLI, local businesses, including Hook Lighthouse and some from Duncannon and the Coastguard took part.

David Neville of Hook Tourism said: 'For a small village everyone got involved. Local businesses said why not give it a go and after this year it's on the calendar from now on for Fethard. There's plenty of life here in the summer and March is the start of the season so it was good to kick it off with a parade.'
