Society produces the goods at AIMS
NEW Ross and Wexford were top of the bill at the annual AIMS awards in Killarney at the weekend, coming away with the titles of Best Overall Show in both the Gilbert and Sullivan sections, along with a string of other accolades.

This is a record seventh time that Wexford have won the best overall show.
Gorey Musical Society's Joan Diegnan picked up Best Supporting Actor for her role in 'All Shook Up.'
It was a great night for St. Michael's Theatre Musical Society, New Ross, in the Sullivan section. They picked up three awards including Best Overall Show for their production of 'The Producers.' Keith Flanagan won Best Supporting Actor while Kevin Reade won Best Comedian.
Wexford Light Opera Society (WLOS) were nominated for six awards for their production of 'The Witches of Eastwick' which was staged in Wexford Opera House in April. The nominations in the top billing Gilbert section were for Best Technical, Best Comedian - George Lawlor, Best Comedienne - Sharon Clancy, Best Actress in a Supporting Role - Catherine (Biddy) Walsh, Best Director - John Donnelly and for Best Overall Show.
Prior to the announcement for the winner of best overall show, Wexford had already been celebrating having secured two wins, for Sharon Clancy and Catherine Walsh and the 40 strong contingent from WLOS who travelled to Killarney were left biting their nails as the awards for third place and second place were announced.
Finally at 1.20am Mary Butler, the National Secretary of AIMS announced that the winner of the AIMS Best Overall Show was WLOS.
Major celebrations kicked off which lasted until after sunrise and continued in Simon's Place, in Wexford, on Sunday evening.
The awards were also streamed live on the web and viewed worldwide by in excess of 4,000 people.
