RTE'S Eileen to host Riverside gala event
THE FINAL countdown is on to find out who will be County Wexford's REHAB Person of the Year for 2013.
Those nominated for category awards were introduced to the People of the Year committee at an informal gathering at the National Learning Network in the Swan Centre in Wexford on Wednesday night.
Category winners are: Youth award - Darragh McDonald - sponsor The Wexford People; Literature - Hilary Murphy - sponsor - Rehab People of the Year Committee; Voluntary Endeavour - Anna Furlong - sponsor - John A Sinnott & Co Solicitors; Culture - The National 1798 Rebellion Centre, Enniscorthy - sponsor - Property Team M.A O' Leary; Community Service - Mary Fitzgerald - sponsor - Wexford Local Development;
Achievement - John Whelan - sponsor - Wexford Farmers Co-Operative Society Ltd.; Entertainment - Celtic Rooots - sponsor - Riverside Park Hotel; Music -New Ross & District Pipe Band - sponsor Rehab People of the Year Committee and Hall of Fame - Maureen Rossiter - sponsor - Wexford County Council.
All of those with category awards, which the exception of the Hall of Fame, are eligible for the overall Person of Year award which will be announced at a glittering black tie dinner dance at the Riverside Park Hotel, in Enniscorthy, on the night of Saturday, October 5, which will be hosted by RTE's Eileen Dunnne.
All the award winners are people who have made a significant contribution to the quality of life in County Wexford through working in the voluntary sector, achieving a distinction which has brought honour to the county and its people or has worked in any field for the betterment of his or her community, either professionally or in a personal capacity.
The People of the Year awards honour the unstinting and often unsung work of people in the community – in charitable endeavours, the world of sports, the arts, culture, jobs creation and other fields.
