HUNDREDS OF pirates descended on the Dunbrody Famine Ship Experience to celebrate the 13th anniversary of the launch of the Dunbrody Famine Ship.

Featuring a pirate theme, this swashbuckling, action packed day was an ideal family day out that included free admission, free tours of the Dunbrody Famine Ship, costumed performers, face painting, colouring competition and spot prizes for best dressed pirates. Jina Cronin from Ballycullane won the pirate themed colouring competition and received a hamper of books and some souvenirs.

Mary French, Brand & Marketing Manager said: 'The day was a fun distraction for local families following the recent bad weather, flooding and power cuts and it was fantastic to see hundreds of happy faces enjoying everything we have to offer here at the Dunbrody Famine Ship Experience.'

The Dunbrody Famine Ship had its busiest year in 2013 attracting over 65,000 visitors.
