Warm send off for bus driver Larry after 40 years
After 40 years at the school bus wheel every school morning, Larry Dunne will finally be able to have a lie in next week after he retires this Thursday.
Larry started driving buses in 1977 and over the years has driven generations of families' children to and from school in New Ross and Scoil Mhuire in Horeswood, among other school buildings.
Up in the small hours of the morning each day, Larry safely completed thousands of journeys to and from local schools. His popularity among pupils and school staff members will mean he will always hold a special place in their hearts and he will be dearly missed.
Larry and his wife Margo were honoured with a retirement party at Horeswood NS last Monday, with several other school bus drivers on local routes attending. On the Aclare route for 29 years, Larry has been part of school life at Horeswood NS ever since.
Principal Margaret Rossiter paid tribute to his fantastic service to the school and wished him well in his retirement on behalf of all of the staff and pupils, past and present at the school.
Everyone enjoyed cake and refreshments and Margo was presented with a fabulous bouquet of flowers while Larry was presented with gifts from the board of management by prefects Emma Kehoe, Chloe Furlong, Adam Donnelly and Sadie Byrne.
