Time to have a ball with the 'Bootleggers'

Published 11/12/2012 | 14:46

Niamh White as 'Gilda Grey' and Tom White as 'Bugsy Malone' preparing for the 'Bootleggers Ball' in Horetown House on New Year's Eve.

THANKS TO the new wine tax in this year's budget it might feel like we are moving towards an era of Prohibition.

But never fear, Bugsy and the boys are bootlegging gin faster than you can say 'speakeasy'.

This New Year's Eve, Horetown House in Foulksmills, will open the doors of its gin joint - the 1692 Bar to welcome guests in to a silent movie screening on the big screen with freshly popped popcorn.

Guests are asked to wear their best 1920's style as the Paparazzi will be out in force to catch a snap of this red carpet affair.

Once the press have moved on the real party starts. You will be smuggled upstairs for a four course gourmet meal in the banqueting hall before the Guys and Dolls on the rum run turn ugly.

Keep your eyes peeled and your moustache straight and don't let any of these wise guys pull a fast one. It won't be long before the gangsters start sniping and bring out the big guns, with murder and mayhem guaranteed. The mystery will unfold as you wine and dine and the winner will pick up a supply of hooch hot from the private cellar.

Once you have eaten your fill and solved the murder mystery you will re-enter the shady world of the 1692 Bar for some roaring cocktails and a midnight toast to ring in the New Year in 1920s style.

Horetown House's Halloween Murder Mystery night sold out so to avoid disappointment book now. Call 051 565633 or check out www.horetownhouse.ie for tickets.
