Skate park planned for town goes out to tender
THE PROPOSED skate park for New Ross is going out to tender.
Tenders are currently being invited for the skate park, which has been designed by Punch Consulting Engineers and New Ross Town Council, with consultation sought from the local skaters group who are said to have played an important role in the design overview and layout achieved.
A Manager's Report on the skate park, which is to be located in the town park, was brought before members of New Ross Town Council at their monthly meeting last Tuesday night.
This proposed facility when completed will be suitable for use by both skaters and BMX users of all abilities and not just for accomplished participants.
There will be a series of jumps and slopes for skaters to manoeuvre and flat areas to skate along at ground level.
The park will be approximately 25 meters long and 20 meters wide, with a floor area of approximately 500m2. The sloped surrounds will be 1.4 m off ground level at their highest point. The entire surround will have a railing around it except at its entrance point. Lighting columns will be provided around the boundary to provide lighting to the park.
The existing CCTV system also covers the proposed location and will be able to monitor the skate park.
When placed on public display, no submissions or observations were received from the public or prescribed authorities in relation to the proposal.
Following the tender process, which is expected to take six weeks, funding is to be sought for the skate park.
