A BRAVE garda from Fethard-on-Sea who saved a man from drowning last week has been hailed a hero – as this was his seventh daring rescue from rivers across the South East.

Garda David Hearne (42), right, who is stationed in Co. Waterford, happened to be in Dungarvan Garda Station last week when the call came in that a man had fallen into ther River Colligan there. Garda Hearne, a member of Hook Sub Aqua Club, immediately went to his aid.

Garda Hearne told the New Ross Standard: 'When I heard the call I said, this is déjà vu.'
