Hundreds of people attended the first ever open day and grandparent's day at the Catherine McAuley Junior School in New Ross on Wednesday.

The school opened its doors to pupils two months ago and the pupils took great pride in showing off the premises to their parents and grandparents. Principal Elma Sutton said: 'They have already taken ownership of the school. Some of the grandparents were amazed that there are toilets in the classrooms, with some recalling their schooldays when they had to go out in the rain to go to an outhouse.'

The 362-pupil school is located alongside the Edmund Rice Senior School and works have been finalised on the footpath leading to both premises.

Everyone enjoyed teas and coffess in the parents room and the views form the impressive building.
