A pregnant woman stole nine pairs of designer sunglasses from a pharmacy in Nenagh, a court was told on Monday.

Sandra Griffin, 22 Upper Oriel Street, Dublin 1, pleaded guilty at Nenagh District Court to stealing the sunglasses, valued at ?1,901 from Finnerty’s Pharmacy, Kenyon Street, Nenagh, on July 5 this year.

The sunglasses were the property of Denis Finnerty, the proprietor of the shop.

Inspector John Lynagh said the property had not been recovered. The defendant had previous convictions.

Defending solicitor, Tony O’ Malley said his client was 26 years of age and a mother of one child.

She was eight months pregnant and was on treatment for depression prior to the offence.

When she became pregnant she came off the medication. She was now back on the medication and she had been referred for counselling.

Judge Reilly adjourned the case to January 21 next for the preparation of a probation and welfare report on the defendant.







Young man’s driving ban

A Nenagh motorist caught under the influence of an intoxicant was banned from driving for two years by Judge Michael Reilly at Nenagh District Court on Monday.



Niall Devery, a 19-year-old apprentice mechanic, of 7 Brooklands Drive, Nenagh, committed the offence at Carhue, Ballycommon, on February 4 this year. He was fined ?300 and an endorsement was imposed on his licence.
