By Gerry Slevin Nenagh and Puckane are among seven parishes in Killaloe diocese to receive a new Parish Priest in Bishop Willie Walshs annual list of changes announced this week.
Archdeacon John F. Hogan is retiring and moves out to Puckane as assistant priest, while taking over in Nenagh as PP is Portroe-native Fr Tom Seymour who moves from a similar position in Terryglass.
Into Puckane as Parish Priest comes Fr John Slattery from Kilcolman (Coolderry) and in addition to Archdeacon Hogan’s departure from Nenagh, Fr Brendan Kyne who has been CC there since 1995, transfers to Castleconnell as Parish Priest.
Archdeacon Hogan is a native of Crusheen in Clare and has been in Nenagh as PP since July 1984. He was ordained in Maynooth in 1954 and while studying for a H. Dip. at UCC he taught at St Finbarr’s College, Farranferris. In 1955 he joined the teaching staff at St Flannan’s and became President of the college in 1971, a position he held until 1976 when appointed Administrator in Ennis.
Fr Kyne hails from Miltown Malbay and was ordained in
1983 and ministered in Kinnitty and Kilrush before moving to Nenagh in 1995.
Fr Slattery (brother of Nenagh CBS teacher Martin) is replaced as PP Kilcolman by Fr Kieran Blake, CC Castleconnell.
The vacancy in Kildysart created by the recent death of Fr Michael Hillery, will be filled through the transfer of Cross PP, Fr Pat O’Neill.

Accompanying Archdeacon Hogan into retirement are Fr Manus Rodgers. PP Silvermines who will continue to serve there as assistant priest, Canon Brendan O’Donoghue PP Shannon, also continuing to serve as assistant priest, Nenagh-native Fr Paschal Flannery PP Kyle & Knock and Fr Tim Tuohy who has been administrator in

Kilmurry Ibrickane for the past year and will continue to serve there as assistant priest.
Fr Pat Larkin CC Kilmurry Ibrickane is to be PP there, while Fr Tom Ryan CC Shannon is also promoted within that parish.
To Nenagh as CC comes Fr Willie Teehan who has been CC in Clarecastle, while Fr Pat Deely CC Kinnitty moves to a similar role in Toomevara,
replacing Fr John McGovern who is the new curate in Clarecastle.
A temporary administrator has been appointed to Terryglass in place of Fr Seymour. He is Fr Joe O’Melia OMI, Shannon. Two other temporary administrators have also been appointed, Fr Neil Campion SPS in Cross and Fr Tom Fitzpatrick in Tubber, the latter also continuing his duties
as teacher/chaplain at Ennis Community College.
According to Bishop Walsh, these administrators will serve on a temporary basis, and he will be reviewing all such appointments subsequent to the report on the future planning of the diocese (see page 1).
Other changes include, Fr Anthony McMahon to be CC Kinnitty, having completed post-graduate studies at St Patrick’s College, Maynooth, Fr Donal O’Dwyer of Shrewsbury diocese in England to be Castleconnell and Fr Brendan Quinlivan C.C., St Flannan’s College, Ennis to continue as assistant in Kilmaley parish. Two diocesan priests working overseas who were given new responsibilities during the year were, Mgr Eugene Nugent, serving in Hong Kong, appointed Prelate of Honour to Pope John Paul 11 and Fr Albert McDonnell, appointed Vice Rector of the Irish college in Rome.
