THREE GIRLS from St. Mary's Secondary School's Y.S.I. class recently faced down the Young Social Innovators (YSI) Panel of Dragons when they represented their 'Alopecia Untangled' project at the YSI Den in Boston Collage, Dublin.

More than 20 teams of young people took their turn to face the dragons, pitching their idea in the hope of receiving money, means or mentorships. St Mary's TY students Ellie Sheehan, Laura Cleary and Klaudia Rapala pitched the project to the three dragons in the hope of gaining a mentor in order to get the project known at national level. The dragons were highly impressed with the project and gave the girls a mentor and €100.

The girls are also holding a 'Take Me Out' fundraiser in order to raise money to buy a Freedom Wig which will be used to change somebody's life by giving them the gift of hair.

The fundraiser will take place on Thursday, February 20 in the Brandon House Hotel with the help of some boys from the Good Counsel College. Tickets cost €10 when bought in advance and anybody interested in buying a ticket and supporting the cause can get in touch by the Facebook page Alopecia Untangled or e-mail the pupils at newrossysi@gmail.com. Tickets can also be bought at the door on the night for €12.

The main aim of 'Alopecia Untangled' is to collect a mile of hair (around 5,000 ponytails) which in the future will be used in the making of Freedom Wigs. Freedom Wigs are custom made human hair wigs manufactured in New Zealand. The girls are calling on people both young and old to donate or pledge their hair to this worthy cause. Hair Donations need to a minimum of 14 inches and cannot be chemically treated. If you're interested in donating your hair please get in touch on their Facebook page Alopecia Untangled or e-mail them at newrossysi@gmail.com
