GARDAí ARE investigating claims that bogus officers are stopping people and seeking bribes in the small hours of the morning.

A Garda spokesperson said that gardaí are aware of reports that a number of people have been targeted in the scam in Adamstown, Gusserane and New Ross.

A woman described being stopped at Adamstown at 1 a.m. on February 28 after picking her husband up from a pub. She said a black car approached her, and its driver flashed a blue light and sounded a siren. When she pulled in, somebody came from the passenger side of the black car, wearing a hi-vis coat and a cap with a Garda emblem on it. That person said he could smell drink from the car, and then the driver of the phantom black car also got out and spoke to her too.
