Uninsured driver is banned for two years

A TWO-YEAR driving ban has been imposed on a Rosbercon resident who drove uninsured in a vehicle he claimed he just bought.

Tadjudeen Alao Akinyemi, with an address at 20 Rosbercon Court, was stopped driving by Gardai on January 26, 2011 on Robert Street. He told Gardai he had just bought his car but could not provide a receipt of purchase.

Defence solicitor Eric Furlong said his client held a provisional driving licence for ten years, however on the day he was stopped it had expired.

He explained that his client needs to be able to drive as he drops and collects his children from school and also hopes to set up a shop in Waterford.

'He is going to be seriously compromised with the loss of his driving licence,' added Mr. Furlong.

Judge Haughton imposed a two year driving ban and a €400 fine.
