Sadness as two prominent business people pass away

THE DEATHS of two prominent New Ross businesspeople has occasioned sadness in their hometown.
Claire Kiely of Kiely's Divan tobacco and souvenir shop on North Street passed away on Sunday and Michael (Mick) Dempsey of Dempsey's pub on Quay Street passed away on Saturday.
Ms Kiely ran the shop for many years with her sister Rita Meagher. She is survived by Rita, her brother-in-law, Jim Meagher; niece, Miriam; nephew, Joe Casey; relatives and large circle of friends.
Mr Dempsey ran the family pub opposite Kiely's for many years and ran a fruit and vegetable shop at the same location prior to the pub. He died aged 88 on Saturday.
He is survived by his wife, Nonie; sons, Jim, Michael, John, Tom, Declan and Pat; grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, Sr Alice and Sr Lila; extended family and friends.
A large crowd attended his funeral mass at St Mary and St Michael's parish church and his burial afterwards at Rosbercon Cemetery yesterday (Monday).
Ms Kiely's funeral mass takes place today (Tuesday) at 2 pm at The Church of the Assumption, followed by her burial in the adjoining cemetery.
