Ross students chosen to address USA Chamber
OUR LADY OF LOURDES Secondary School in New Ross has been selected as the only school in the country to address the forthcoming USA Chamber of Commerce convention on Corporate Social Innovation in Education.
Taking place in the Convention Centre in Dublin on November 20, this exciting opportunity came about as part of the Young Social Innovators programme, which promotes social justice through innovating projects.
The Study Buddies were formed in response to cuts in learning support and resource hours in primary schools.
The girls from TY and fifth year worked in all New Ross schools helping students and teachers, targeted politicians and councillors and raised money for the Lasallian Schools Building Project in Africa. Their work will continue this year as part of the YSI Step Up Challenge.
The students have gone from strength to strength, receiving grants from New Ross Town Council, YSI Dragon's Den, an appearance on RTE Radio 1 and even an invitation from the White House to address the National Centre for Learning Disabilities in Washington DC.
Great preparations are underway for the convention as the girls are speaking alongside companies such as GE Healthcare, Pranierica, JP Morgan and McDonalds.
