OPEL'S stylish Mokka brings a wealth of German-engineered driving technologies to the sub-compact SUV segment.
Combined with a bold dynamic design and muscular stance, but measuring just 4.28 metres in length, the Opel Mokka is very distinctive and purposeful.
The Mokka was provided for road test by Wendy O'Rourke of official Opel dealers Ferrybank Motors, in Wexford, and was the 1.7 CDTi SC version which retails at €25,735.
The three-day test drive took place during a spell of very wet and windy weather which allowed the Mokka to show of its mettle.
The car dealt with the bad weather with aplomb and was unfazed by the storms as was I in its secure and comfortable environment.
Drive and comfort enhancing features include the Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Traction Control (TC) as well as the Hill Start Assist (HSA) and Hill Descent Control (HDC) systems.
Opel says the Mokka blends functionality and a comfortable, high seating position with a flavour of adventure.
One of the main focal points of the Mokka's development was the chassis which was designed and fine-tuned in Germany. The Mokka chassis has been tailored for everyday use but is also very suitable in off-road conditions. It was equally at home getting into tight parking spaces and given its high seating was easy to park, with great visibility.
The Mokka chassis ensures maximum ride comfort and handling performance, even in difficult road conditions.
While it is available with two petrol engines, 1.6 and a 1.4 litre, the 1.7 litre turbocharged CDTi was both powerul and very efficient, with lots of low down grunt. I easily achieved just under 60 mpg, the Mokka's 120 g/km CO2 making it one of the the most fuel efficient vehicles of its segment. The performance figures speak for themselves: with a six-speed manual gear box and front-wheel drive the Mokka achieves 62 mph in just 10.5 seconds.
Technologies that enhance both safety and comfort includes traction control which is standard across all Mokka versions and acts like a limited slip differential.
The Mokka reflects the traditional strengths of the brand: driving dynamics, flexibility for everyday life and emotional design.
