THE WORK of New Ross man Joe Ryan in bringing better education to children in The Gambia was supported by a Monster Trad music session in Prendergast's pub.

A cheque for approximately €1,000 was recently presented to Mr Ryan at the pub, located on The Quay in New Ross, where the fundraiser took place earlier in the year.

Throughout the past 11 years, Joe Ryan from Ballybrazil, New Ross, has paid numerous trips to The Gambia, where he, together with Nicky McEvoy and Tom O'Mahoney from Waterford, founded 'The Gambia School Project'.

Kassawa, a village in The Gambia, has seen a dramatic change, since 'The Gambia School Project' came into operation.

In the longer term, Joe, together with those involved in the 'The Gambia School Project', are trying their best to get the people in The Gambia to become self sufficient.
