THE CHILDREN'S playground in the park is now sporting a bright, multicoloured perimeter fence thanks to the efforts of men from New Ross Men's Shed and Allotments.

Funding was provided by New Ross Tidy Towns for the project which began three weeks ago and concluded on Thursday.

Cllr Anthony Connick and Philo Whelan of New Ross Tidy Towns came up with the idea to add a splash of colour to the park ahead of the All Ireland Pipe Band Championships this weekend.

Cllr Connick, who was involved in the project, said: 'We did it over a three week period every Tuesday and Thursday night. We said we wanted to do something in the park and it looks well for the kids. It's a simple thing but it's effective.'

New Ross Tidy Towns members purchased the paint from Paddy Breen's hardware shop on Mary Street and it was decided to paint the fence in the colours of a rainbow for the children of the area.
