Music plays a big part in the lives of all pupils in Rathangan school which boasts a 50-member orchestra.

Tuition is provided by visiting music teachers Ann Wickham, Liam Daly, Heather Boxwell and Regina Lautwein whose work is consolidated by in-house teachers.

Thanks are due to Liam Daly, a past member of the Artane Band, for initiating contact with the band and sourcing instruments for the school.

Rathangan orchestra will play a couple of pieces during the concert under the direction of teacher Ruth Hyland.

Music tuition on traditional musical instruments takes place after school on Fridays as part of a programme started by teachers Emer Fitzharris and Sinead McCoy.

Over 80 pupils attend - a junior trad group of 28 of these young musicians will also paly a few tunes during the concert.

The Artane Band, under the direction of Ronan O' Reilly will perform a mixed set including jazz and rock n roll as well as more traditional pieces.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets are available from the school office, telephone 051 563167.
