WEST MUNSTER UNDER 15 CUP FINAL
Traleerfc 24 Listowel 7
TRALEE travelled to Abbeyfeale on Saturday last for the final of the West Munster Under 15 cup final.
Playing with the hill the opening half the exchanges were keenly fought with neither side capable of breaking the opposing defensive lines. Listowel had a powerful pack and Tralee absorbed much pressure before we began to win some clean possession.
When we did move the ball wide our back line did look very dangerous. Finally, following a series of phases deep inside the Listowel half Jack Murray moved the ball quickly to see Karl Hoffman crossing near the corner. Rory Hill added the points with a fine conversion from an acute angle.
Our back row of Andrew Mcellsitrim, Ben O'neill and James O'connor were under constant pressure and needed to be sharp to deal with the constant Listowel attack. Conor O'nuallain, Ciaran O'regan and Jack O'shea were to the fore and had a great battle in the scrums.
Just before half- time we had a great forward maul movement which again saw Hoffman cross for his second try. Tralee led by 12 to nil and the break. Greg Reidy, Louis Wells and Cathal O'reilly were introduced at the restart.
Diarmuid O'sullivan and Jack Quilter were instrumental in some fine counter attacking movements. From a lineout inside the Listowel 22 Jack O'shea gathered possession and with exceptional power and pace he crossed for our third try under the posts.
Again Rory Hill added the points with a well take conversion. Listowel were far from finished and following some powerful rucking and mauling they crossed for a well taken try which was converted. This left the scoreline with Tralee ahead by 19 to 7.
However, Listowel had a spring in their step and piled on the pressure yet again. During an attack in the Listowel half Tralee again showed some fine pace and Ben O'neill crossed for our fourth try. In the closing stages we had some tremendous tackling from Louis Wells, Fergus Bulman and Richard Boyle to deny Listowel yet again.
Time simply ran out for Listowel and victory went to Tralee. Our captain, Jack Quilter accepted the cup on behalf of Tralee and the panel celebrated as West Munster champions. This victory crowned a fantastic season with both league and cup titles secured.
Throughout the entire season the entire panel have been dedicated and focussed on the challenges presented. It was particularly pleasing to welcome Anthony Craig back playing again after a break through injury. Our season in now concluded yet many of our panel will be involved with the West Munster cadet programme during the coming months.
This was a very successful campaign and well done to the entire panel!
Thanks also to the successful coaching panel of Nick Mcellistrim, Cecil Hoffman, John Murray and Fionnbar Walsh who structured this successful team for the season.
