A NORTH Kerry pig breeder has been honoured for his dedication to farm safety and high standards at the annual FBD National Farmyard awards.
Shane McAulliffe of Parknageragh Pig Breeders, Toureen more, Knocknagoshel came second overall in the Other Enterprise category of the national awards, which aim to reward farmers who keep tidy, well maintained, attractive farmyards and who promote the highest safety standards.
The 22 year old farms with his father Mike, who is CEO of the renowned Truly Irish brand. Shane said the family was thrilled with the award, particularly given the bad year the industry has experiences.
"The pig breeding industry has had a terrible year so it's nice to be rewarded on a national level for farm safety, layout and the overall good management of the farm yard," he said.
Shane is a graduate of CIT and WIT and is currently doing a Masters in Livestock Sciences in Aberystwyth University in Wales.
