DOZENS of rugby enthusiasts are expected to descend on the local club grounds in Abbeyfeale on Sunday, July 29, for the third annual Noelie Roche mixed tag rugby tournament.
The fun event is being held in memory of the late Abbeyfeale RFC member who died tragically in a fall two and a half years ago, aged just 39.
Organisers are calling on locals and visitors alike to sign up for the seven-aside tournament, which has proved a fantastic success over the past two years.
Organiser Sean Naughton explained that a number of local pubs are expected to enter teams, with others welcome to register for the tournament on the day. While teams will be made up of seven players, individuals are also welcome and will be teamed with other players.
"We decided to hold the tournament in memory of Noelie who died two years ago and it was a massive success so it has now become an annual event," Sean said. "It promises to be a great day and is always great fun, with the winners being presented with the Noelie Roche memorial cup which has been donated by his family."
Next Sunday's event will kick off at 2pm, so those interested in taking part are asked to arrive earlier to allow time to register. The final of the competition is expected to be played at 5pm.
Supporters can also enjoy a BBQ and bar facilities throughout the tournament.
