Sir, Similar to many Rockies, I felt a bit deflated after Dr. Crokes convincing and well deserved victory over my beloved Austin Stacks in the quarter final of the Kerry senior football championship last Sunday week.
As I was coming to terms during midweek with the The Rock's elimination from the championship, I picked up TheKerryman to read Damian Stack's match report. He certainly knows how to put the boot in. Talk about kicking a team when it's down!
Damian certainly didn't spare our feelings as he poured salt on our festering wound of defeat. While I admit to looking at the game though black and amber tinted glasses, I felt that Damian's report could have been a bit kinder to the losing team, which fought the good fight right to the final whistle.
Stacks had a great first half but the sending off of William Kirby for a second yellow card was always going to make the second half an uphill struggle. Okay! So there was a bit of a free-for-all for a few moments in the first half, but that was due to the tension of the occasion and the game settled down once the players had let off a bit of steam.
Damian's views are far more balanced than mine, but I'm sure he will forgive my subjective defence of a team, of which we Rockies are very proud.
There is no disputing that Dr. Crokes was by far the superior team in the second half. Colm Cooper and his team mates were magnificent. Dr. Crokes is a credit to Killarney and Kerry. I wish them every success in their future games and hope they go on to win the All-Ireland club championship.
Meanwhile, we Rockies live in hope for the future and with unflinching pride in The Austin Stacks Club. Sincerely, Billy Ryle, The Spa, Tralee.
