OUR Girl Lucy, trained at Tralee by Tom Cooper, and well ridden by his multi-talented son Bryan, were deserving winners of the 2ml 6f beginners chase at Tramore on Thursday last.
Taken to the front from the outset on a track that really suits front runners, Cooper got his mount into a really nice jumping rhythm and was still in front, on the favoured inside position, three out. Racing to the last a mistake temporarily halted his momentum, but Bryan was quickly back on an even keel, keeping on well to win handily by a length from Ferris Bueller.
The mare had previously ran a cracker against Jacksonslady, and is on the upgrade.
In the absence of the trainer, who was at home recovering from the flu, the winning jockey reported that "she jumped great and did it well apart from the last. That ground out there was hard work for her, and it was hard for her to jump out of it. Dad is at home in bed with the flu, and I hope that will cheer him up a bit."
