WHILE the main interest this weekend will focus on the County Senior Football Championship quarterfinals, there are a number of big games in the Junior competitions down for decision as well this Saturday. Three competitions in particular will be decided, namely the Novice Shield, the Barrett and Cahill Cups.
The Novice Shield Final sees Division Four side Listry come up against Division Five's Ballydonoghue on Saturday evening in Strand Road at 5pm. The East Kerry side defeated Kilgarvan and Asdee to advance to Saturday's final while on the other side Ballydonoghue accounted for both Fossa and St Senans.
Listry will be fancied as they are on the verge of Division Three Football next year in the County League but the North Kerry side have beaten two teams above them in the pecking order this year and certainly won't fear the challenge.
In the Junior Cup competitions meanwhile, the Barrett and Cahill Cups will both be decided on Saturday as well.
The Barrett Cup final sees Dromid Pearses come up against surprise packages Clounmacon who have accounted for Ballydonoghue, St Pats/Blennerville and Na Gaeil in making it to Saturday afternoon's final in Farranfore at 3pm.
Dromid saw off Kenmare, St Senans and defending champions Austin Stacks in reaching Saturday's decider and will be hoping to avoid being another big scalp for the North Kerry side.
The Cahill Cup Final sees Annascaul take on Scartaglin in Milltown on Saturday evening at 5pm. The West Kerry side received a walkover from Firies in the First Round of the competition before going on to defeat Cromane and Templenoe in making it to the final. Scart received a bye into the quarter-finals and were subsequently victorious over both Churchill and Castlegregory.
One other Junior Cup game this weekend sees both Gneeveguilla and Ardfert meet in the McElligott Cup semi-final in Gneeveguilla on Saturday at 6pm. The winners will face Skellig Rangers in the final.
Regarding the final of the other Junior Cup competition, the Molyneaux Cup, Dr Crokes will face Austin Stacks in a battle of the 'Black & Amber' with a date, venue and time yet to be confirmed.
