TWENTY-YEAR old leading conditional jockey Mark Enright from Newcastlewest, excelled again at Thurles races on Thursday last, where he produced a splendid riding performance on 10/1 chance Sherika, in the 2ml6f handicap hurdle, for Galway trainer Grainne O'Connor.
Enright, who was able to claim 5 pounds off bottom weight, which is a huge asset to him, was well placed from the start. Racing in fifth at halfway, across the top of the track on the approach into the long finishing straight, he began to make progress on the outside and was produced with impeccable timing two out to hit the front.
Clear coming to the last, he kept on well under a splendid drive from the saddle to coast home by four lengths from Drawn n Drank, providing the hugely talented young jockey with his 23rd winner of the current season, and the 36th win of his blossoming career to date.
He is currently attached to the Dessie Hugees stables at The Curragh.
