AFTER the excitement of the Kerry U-16 team winning the All-Ireland in Kildare the week before, it was back to club action last weekend in Pitch & Putt.
Deerpark hosted their U16 Scratch Cup (sponsored by the Victoria House Hotel, Killarney) last Saturday, which saw 34 players take part and the Claret Jug go to one of the winning members of the Kerry team, that being Conor McCarthy of the host club, who total of 16 under par saw him finish 10 shots clear of Cork's Edward Walsh in second on six under.
Stephen McCarthy made it a good day for the family by winning the U-16 prize with Jason Brosnan winning the U-16 prize, Michael Cronin the U-14 and Darragh Lyne the U-12 prize at yesterday's competition.
Over in Tralee last Sunday the Club Matchplay Championship, sponsored by Tim Scannell's Boylesports took place and the final saw Declan O'Connell defeat Aidan O'Sullivan in the 36 hole contest by a score of 4&3.
O'Connell defeated Vince McMahon to advance to the final while O'Sullivan made it to the decider courtesy of a win over Roger Gutherie in the other semi-final.
Next Sunday is the penultimate County Board competition of the year that being the Danny Nolan Memorial Scotch Foursomes in Deerpark, which is now being held in memory of the former County Board chairman from the Killarney club.
Entry is open to all PPUI registered members in the county and will played over 36 holes after an open draw at 9.30am on Sunday morning with the lower handicapped players and the Ladies seeded for the draw.
Entry is €10 per player and we encourage all the county's players to support this event on Sunday.
