LIGHT OPERA SOCIETY OF TRALEE (LOST) AUDITIONS FOR THE PRODUCERS
LOST is delighted to announce that it has secured the rights for Mel Brooke's cult comedy musical The Producers. A shamelessly outrageous tale of an attempted fraud on Broadway that goes disastrously wrong, the stage show, based on Mel Brooke's comedy masterpiece, collected a record twelve Tony awards. Open auditions take place this Wednesday, August 31st at Kerry School of Music Fleischmann Studio at 6pm. LOST recently won two national AIMS awards for their production of Jeckyll and Hyde, staged at Siamsa last November. Jackie O' Mahony won Best Female singer and the show also won the best technical award, while Gary Murphy was joint runner up in Best Male singer. The show will be directed and designed by Aidan O' Carroll and choreographed by his daughter, last year's joint runner up in the AIMS Choreography category, Aisling.
ANNUAL OPEN DAY
The School of Music Annual Open Day takes place this year on Saturday, August 24th. Many novel features are being planned including a special Teddy Bear's Picnic with the School of Music Senior Orchestra under the direction of Aidan O' Carroll. Designed especially to introduce children of all ages to the sound of the orchestra, the Teddy Bear's Picnic has proved phenomenally popular. Parents and children are invited to bring a picnic, a blanket and their favourite cuddly toy and enjoy the combination of food, drink and music. As demand is expected to be very high, advance booking is advised. The Teddie Bear's Picnic is entirely free.
CATCH THE WIND
is another creative initiative which introduces children and young adults to the wood and brass wind instruments. Each participant sees and hears the instruments in action in and orchestral context and then gets to try each and every one of the instruments for themselves under the expert eye of the school's teachers and senior students.
During the open day, prize-winning students will also give a series of short recitals on a cross section of instruments including voice during the day. Teas, coffees and finger food will be served. For an Open Day programme, call 0667125690
