SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP QUARTER-FINAL. Duagh 0-7 Brosna 0-6
THIS quarter-final was played in Listowel last Sunday with great underfoot conditions considering the wet weather we have had. It was Duagh who got of the mark first with a point in the 1st minute from the boot of corner forward Ger McCarthy. It was Brosna's Tom McGoldrick who converted a free in the third minute and this was to be the only score of the half for Brosna.
In quick reply in the fourth minute Duagh's Nigel O'Connor pointed. There was a period of play were no side could get there team on the score board. With possession equal on both sides Duagh kicking wide after wide and Brosna giving away the ball time and time again. It took until the 32nd minute for Duagh's Mid feilder Anthony Maher to point with a great kick from the 45 region. Half time score Duagh 0-3 Brosna 0-1.
Second half started and with only 38 seconds gone on the clock Duagh's Ger McCarthy pointed. Again Brosna's corner forward Tom McGoldrick was accurate from a free and put the ball over the bar in the 5th minute. Brosna seemed to be getting to grips with the Duagh backs and a quick moving centre forward Mike Finnegan (Brosna) split the posts in the 10th minute. With only a point between the sides again it was Brosna who ran at Duagh and in the 12th minute a free awarded was again converted by Tom McGoldrick (Brosna) sides were now level.
It took until the 17th minute for Duagh to reply with a point from corner forward Nigel O'Connor. Brosna's free taker Tom McGoldrick was again on target when he pointed from a free in the 22nd minute. But Duagh midfeilder Anthony Maher took the game to Brosna and split the posts in the 24th minute. But Brosna were not beaten yet and centre forward Mike Finnegan split the posts in the 27th minute.
With the clock ticking down and the sides level there was stoppage time to be played and in the third minute of stoppage county man Anthony Maher fired the winning point over the bar from the stand side of
