THERE had been doubts in advance about whether or not the game would go ahead such was the extent of the Abbeydorney / Crotta injury list and it certainly bore through on the field as there was little they could do to prevent a Ricky Heffernan masterclass in Austin Stack Park last Sunday with the Lixnaw full-forward accounting for 3-8 of his side's final total in a merciless 27 point rout.
O'Dorney / Crotta were competitive for much of the first-half responding well to Lixnaw's second goal in the 23rd minute through Jason Wallace with a goal of their own from David Egan from the resulting puck-out. However, Heffernan's second goal gave Lixnaw a commanding 3-10 to 1-2 lead at the break but the game was truly turned into a procession with a 33rd minute penalty from Heffernan followed by their fifth goal from Keith Silles almost straight after.
Jordan Conway had to do well in the O'Dorney / Crotta goal soon after to prevent a sixth goal but it duly came in the 44th minute as thoughts turned to what the actual final score line might be. Stevie O'Sullivan was unlucky not to score a second goal for O'Dorney / Crotta near the end, his effort cracking off the post but points from Egan and a JP Byrne free were all they could score in the second half.
Lixnaw used the full compliment of substitutes before the final whistle and, while they were dominant in nearly every sector of the pitch last Sunday, how much they will have actually learned about themselves ahead of the final with Kilmoyley is debatable, but certainly Ricky Heffernan in full flow was one of the few highlights of an otherwise forgettable match that was only ever going to go one way with only 18 Abbeydorney / Crotta players togged out.
