IT was another weekend of club action of the Pitch & Putt front.
At Deerpark the European Rules Scramble (sponsored by the Kerry Phone Centres) was played on Sunday morning in splendid sunshine. 24 took part and the overall winners were the team of Shelia O'donoghue, Paddy Murphy and Johnny O'brien with a score of 68 1/3 Nett while on the first anniversary of his fantastic triumph in the Irish Open at the same course, Damien Fleming took the Gross Prize, teaming up with both Timmy Looney and Hugh O'sullivan to shoot a fine score of 83.
Out in Castleisland the Knight Family Shield concluded on Sunday and the winner was Tom O'leary with a score of 21up, one ahead of Mike Browne with 20up. Shane Brennan won the Gross prize with 16up, while John Fitzgerald won the Hole-in-one prize.
This Sunday, Deerpark is throwing its doors open to the county at large for the Willie Parker Memorial European Rules Singles competition. This 36 hole Stableford competition begins at 8.30am in the morning with the last card at 11am sharp.
The competition is open to all PPUI registered members amongst the Kerry clubs at € 10 per player and three clubs, one of which must be a putter, are permitted for use. We encourage all the players in the county to do their best to support this competition.
A reminder also that the Munster Matchplay qualifiers begin in Castleisland this Monday evening, April 23.
