OFFICERS of the Kerry Federation of Clubs had a busy day at Tralee on Saturday when they hosted the 2012 Kerry Club Captains for the annual "get together" and following golf and a bite to eat, the draws were made for the 2012 Dr Billy O'sullivan Shield and the Nines of Kerry Shield.
On a blustery showery day at Barrow, Castleisland Captain Con Murphy took first prize with 35 points ahead of Federation Honorary Secretary, James O'loughlin from Tralee who had 34 with Simon Stauch from Ring of Kerry third with 33pts.
The draws for the two shields threw up some interesting pairings which I will look at in depth in the coming weeks as play gets underway but for the moment here are the draws.
Let's start with Kerry's most popular inter-club competition the Dr Billy O'sullivan Shield where Parknasilla were first out of the hat and take on neighbours Ring of Kerry with the winners at home to Tralee in round two. Castlegregory play Skellig Bay and the winners are at home to Ballyheigue Castle. Ross and Ceann Sibeal both got byes and clash in round two as did Castlerosse who are at home to Beaufort, Killorglin who are at home to Waterville and Listowel who are at home to Ardfert.
Dooks take on Ballybunion in round one with the winners at home to Kenmare (the holders) in round two. Finally at the bottom of the draw, Castleisland play Dunloe with the winners at home to Killarney.
In the Nines of Kerry Shield, Castlerosse received a bye at the top of the draw and await the winners of Parknasilla and Dunloe while in the bottom half, Castlegregory play Ardfert and Ross play Ballyheigue.
