NORTH KERRY SFC QUARTER-FINAL
Lisotwel Emmets 3-18 Castleisland Desmonds 1-2
EMMETS started as they meant to go on in this one.
Straight away they put the ball over the bar, through wing-forward David Sheehy with four minutes gone. Little did we know – or did Desmonds know – at that stage what a one sided affair this would turn out to be. Sheehy's effort in the fourth minute was followed up in the fifth with a pointed free by Cormac Mulvihill. A free in the 14th minute was converted by corner-forward Conor Cox.
Conor Cox in the 17th and 20th minutes split the posts and in reply in the 22nd minute Desmonds fired a long ball into the square were waiting for the ball was full-forward Eric Neilgan – he fisted the ball into the Listowel net. Emmets, despite having all the ball they, were now only two points up, but the Emmets men dug deep and up their game in the 23rd minute wing-forward Tadgh Kennelly played two dummies and split the posts.
A free to Desmonds was converted in the 26th minute by Donagh O'Connell. Again Conor Cox pointed in the 27th minute and just before the half-time whistle the Emmets man drove forward for goal only to be pulled down by the Desmonds' backs and a penalty awarded – converted by wing back Cormac Mulvihill. Halftime score Emmets 1-7 Desmonds 1-2.
The second half began and again it was Emmets who started first with Conor Cox pointing in the second minute. Conor went on to score 1-2 in this half. In the sixth minute Noel Kennelly split the posts and 30 seconds later fired the ball to the back of the Desmonds net.
Then on came Emmets subs and they really showed their egarness for places.
Billy Doyle scored four points, Brain Murphy and John James Buckley a point a piece and fullback John Heaphy a point. The only score of the half for Desmonds came in the 18th minute from sub Graham O'Connor.
Desmonds with many of their regular's missing will be disappointed with the result.
